Dr. Umar Saif, Pakistan’s Interim Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication, is spearheading an ambitious initiative to boost the country’s tech-related service exports. The aim is to reach an annual target of $10 billion by empowering one million freelancers to earn approximately $30 per day. In the coming two to three months, the government will facilitate this endeavor by offering financial support and collaborative workspaces.
Additionally, Pakistan is in discussions with PayPal to streamline payment processes for freelancers and plans to adopt 5G technology within the next eight months.
Currently, Pakistan’s technology sector contributes around $2.5 billion annually through the sale of services to foreign nations. The government’s proactive measures are geared toward significantly increasing this figure. Dr. Saif underscores the importance of securing investment and creating conducive working environments within the private sector to realize this ambitious vision, which holds substantial potential for Pakistan’s economic growth.
