Pakistan cricket team selector Inzamam-ul-Haq has stepped down from his role after facing allegations of having a business relationship with a players’ agent.
He has submitted his resignation letter to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Zaka Ashraf, who called him for a meeting at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore to investigate the matter.
The media reports that Inzamam-ul-Haq was accused of being a partner of Talha Rahmani, a UK-based players’ agent who legally represents many of Pakistan’s top cricketers, such as captain Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Shah Afridi.
Inzamam-ul-Haq was also alleged to have shares and profits in Yazoo, a British company owned by Talha Rahmani.
These claims raised questions about Inzamam-ul-Haq’s possible conflicts of interest, as he was involved in selecting the national cricket team while having a stake in a players’ agent’s firm.
Zaka Ashraf, the PCB chairman, said in a recent interview with a local TV channel that he might launch an inquiry into Inzamam’s alleged links with a players’ agent’s company to ensure that the selection process for the national cricket team is fair and transparent.
