The Punjab interim government has declared a state of emergency across the province to address the worsening smog situation, particularly in Lahore. This decision came after a meeting led by Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi to assess anti-smog strategies.
Despite the emergency, the government has chosen not to close schools and public transportation. Instead, it has mandated that students in all private and public educational institutions wear masks for their safety.
The chief minister has also instructed authorities to take action against individuals who fail to control dust from construction activities. Additionally, farmers have been urged not to burn crop residues, with the chief minister withdrawing fines issued to them for this reason.
The government is committed to cracking down on vehicles and factories emitting harmful smoke, and strict measures will be taken to address this issue.
Earlier in the day, the Lahore High Court (LHC) ordered the administration to declare a smog emergency to protect the health of the citizens.
